From Struggle to Purpose: The Birth of The Gracious Foundation
My story begins in a small village in Kirinyaga County, where I faced the harsh realities of life from an early age. Losing my father and watching my mother struggle to provide for us taught me resilience. Financial hardships forced me to leave school at Grade 5, and as a teenager, I worked as a house help to support my family. These challenges shaped my deep empathy for others facing similar struggles.
In 2008, a life-changing moment ignited my purpose. While living in Githurai, I witnessed a child faint from hunger at a nearby school. That painful reminder of my own childhood struggles pushed me to take action. I mobilized my neighbors to donate food and started cooking meals for 180 children at the school. What began as a small act of kindness soon became my life’s calling.
In 2017, I founded The Gracious Foundation with one purpose: to ensure no child endures the struggles I did. Today, we provide food, education, healthcare, and social protection to those who need it most. Our work is driven by a firm belief that every child deserves dignity, opportunity, and hope.
This 2025–2035 Strategic Plan marks an exciting new chapter in our journey. It reflects our unwavering commitment to expanding our reach, deepening our impact, and transforming lives. This mission is not mine alone—it is powered by a dedicated team, generous partners, and a community that believes in the power of collective action.
